A meeting of the Katahdin German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Greater Portland was held on Sunday, May 22, 2005 at the home of Tom Dwyer. In attendance were Tom Dwyer, Peg Gagnon, Lou Gagnon, Kim Leeman, Steve Marcq, Deb Broad, Tal Allen and Pat Russell. The meeting commenced at 5:35PM.
Clark Wamsley, a proposed new member, joined the meeting around 6:30PM.
President's Report: The minutes of the last meeting were accepted as printed in the last newsletter. He stated that he was very pleased with the results of our Spring Hunt Test, and expressed his appreciation to the members for their participation.
Secretary's Report: The Secretary reported on dues received to-date. In accordance with their requirement, a list of officers elected at the last meeting has been sent to the AKC.
Treasurer's Report: The Treasurer was unable to attend, so the report will be postponed until the next meeting.
Election of New Members: Cassandra Tompkins and Frank Fowler were ratified as new members. Three new members have been proposed:
Jeffrey & Erica Gross - sponsored by Deb Broad (family membership)
Tina Starner & Steve Leathers - sponsored by Jeremy Thompson (family membership)
Clark Wamsley - sponsored by Jeremy Thompson (single membership)
Show Committee: Sandra was unable to attend, so the Show Committee report is postponed. Tom Dwyer will check with Sandra regarding our Vermont Sponsored entry. Other possible venues for supported entries were discussed.
Training Committee: Jeremy was not in attendance, but people reported that the training days were going well, and that the next one will be May 29th at Sharpe's Farm.
Club Championship Committee: There was a discussion of what is the appropriate manner and amount to charge for this event. There was also a discussion regarding the logistics for the day - how people move from field to water to the ring and what worked last year and what did not. Kim Leeman will work on flyers for the event.
Hunt Test Committee: The Fall Hunt Test will be held on October 29th and 30th. Deb Broad will be the Chairman and Tom Dwyer will be the Secretary. Pat Russell will assist Tom. Tal Allen will be the go-to person for the event. Thanks were given to Tal and to Chris Holiday for their splendid bird planting at the Spring Test. Steve Marcq reported that HELDCA has received letters complaining abut noise and trash following events held at Sharpe's Farm. They aren't specific to our events, but we need to be aware of the issue.
Website: Kim gave a special thanks to Tal Allen for his marvelous photos which grace the website for the Team Shoot and the Spring Hunt Test. She asked that when members submit photos they be reduced to 72 pixels per inch. Tom might have a sponsor for the website - he'll look into it. The members then discussed the possibility of multiple sponsors. Deb Broad thanked Kim for her help in getting the Hunt Test's running order on the website.
Old Business:
· Pat Russell and Tom Dwyer will review the by-laws and working rules and possibly make recommendations.
· There was a discussion of club items for sale. Tom has decals and will look into bumper stickers. Pat Russell will look into ordering more T-shirts. We have plenty of hats.
New Business:
· Pauline Marcq has done a fantastic job of providing us with tasty food at all our events. Many thanks to her for all her years of dedication. Peg Gagnon volunteered to help out.
· It was decided to consider adding an agility factor to the club - perhaps providing a demonstration at the Club Championship.
· There was a discussion of members who have not paid 2005 dues. These people will receive a notice on their next newsletter that it will be their last newsletter.
· It was recalled that we used to have a banner for club events, but it can not be located. Does anybody know where it is? If it can't be located, we will consider either purchasing or making a new one.
The next meeting will be held at 5PM on July 10th at Pauline & Steve Marcq's house. All members are invited. Directions to the Marcq's house are in the mailed newsletter.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:40 PM.
Respectfully submitted;
Pat Russell, Secretary
