JANUARY 2005 MINUTES

A meeting of the Katahdin German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Greater Portland was held on Sunday, January 9, 2005 at the home of Peg and Lou Gagnon. In attendance were Tom Dwyer, Peg Gagnon, Lou Gagnon, Kim Leeman, Steve Marcq, Alison Jones, Deb Broad, Steve Broad, Jeremy Thompson, Tal Allen, Sandra Kretz and Pat Russell. The meeting commenced at 4:20 PM.

President's Report: The minutes of the last meeting were accepted as printed in the last newsletter. The President was very pleased with the Club showing at the Boston Specialty Show - it was nice not to brave a blizzard to get there this year! Club membership is up 15%.

Secretary's Report: The Secretary reported on a NAVHDA lecture on Animal Behavior to be held on January 30th in Portland. The speaker is Ray McSoley, from Animal Behavior Associates in Westwood, MA. The AKC has sent their close-out letter from the December Specialty Show and included the application for next year.

Treasurer's Report: Jeremy Thompson reported on the club's finances. He has opened up a separate checking account for Rescue. Trophy donations are due for the Specialty Show. The trophy bill was $856. He will have a financial recap of 2004 at the Annual Meeting.

Hunt Test Committee: The test is scheduled for April 30,2005 and May 1,2005. Deb Broad will be the Chairperson. Quail have been ordered from Florida. It was recommended that we have two premiums, color coded, one for Saturday and one for Sunday. The Hunt Test Committee was appointed.

Rescue Committee: Tom Dwyer contributed $25 for a dog in need, which was matched by Jeremy Thompson.

Show Committee: Many thanks to Sandra and Peg for the hard work which went into making the December Specialty Show a success, and thanks to all the members for their help and support. It is too early to get a financial report, but it looks like we made out all right. The raffle for the print raised $54 for Rescue. The raffle table raised $251. It was discussed whether we should keep the show in Boston next year, and was agreed that we should. This year had the highest number of entries in many years. Sandra has approached Burlington VT, regarding a Supported Entry, and they are very interested. It would cost the club $150. By motion moved and approved, it was voted to go ahead with the Burlington show.

Training Committee: Jeremy is ready to start some informal training. Discussion was held on the timing of the AKC Hunt Test Seminar with the Club Training Day.

Club Championship Committee: Deb Broad says it is going well - scheduled for August 21, 2005. There are quite a few ribbons left over from last year, so our expenses shouldn't be so high.

Team Shoot: Jeremy will research places and dates.

Election of New Members: Barbara Desjardins was ratified, and two new memberships, Marion Gray and Roger and Beverly Martineau, were presented.

Website Committee: By motion moved and accepted, it was voted to pay for the website for the coming year.
