A meeting of the Katahdin German Shorthaired Pointer Club of Greater Portland was held on Sunday, July 18, 2004 at the home of Pat Russell and Fred Newcomb. In attendance were Tom Dwyer, Fred Newcomb, Sandra Kretz, Peg Gagnon, Lou Gagnon, Alison Jones and Pat Russell. The meeting commenced at 6:35 PM.
President's Report: The minutes of the last meeting were accepted as printed in the last newsletter. Tom Dwyer commented that the Club is doing well this year and there is a lot of good enthusiasm for events.
Secretary's Report:
Pat Russell reported on
membership renewals to date. Nonpaying members will be deleted from
the mailing list. The Membership List with known e-mail addresses
will be sent to Steve Marcq to be included in the next newsletter
mailing. Only members will have the Membership List attached.
In response to a request from a club member, the Secretary would be
pleased to mail information packages to new puppy owners from
members' litters telling them about the club.
The GSPCA National Field Trial Delegates will be having a meeting in
October in Kansas. Sandra said that one of our members may possibly
be planning on attending.
The AKC has sent out a flyer on their Responsible Dog Ownership Day.
We will put a notice in the newsletter.
The Secretary received an informational packet from "It's a Dog's
World" in York, Maine advertising their training and event facility.
It is possible that we could consider holding an event
there.
Treasurer's Report: Jeremy Thompson was unable to attend, so the Treasurer's report was tabled until the next meeting.
Show Committee: Sandra Kretz is on schedule. She received what she needed from Mike Buckley and will be turning in the Premium List by August 1st. Mayflower has again approved our participation with them in the December Specialty Show. Sandra will be taking trophy pledges again - the trophy list needs to be into the AKC by August 1st. Peg Gagnon will be taking over as Show Chairman working closely with Sandra.
Hunt Test Committee: Discussion tabled.
Rescue Committee: Peg reported that we are now featuring the Dog of the Month on our website. Michelle Burgess continues to do a great job placing GSP's.
Club Championship Committee: The Club Championship will be held on August 28th. Deb Broad is doing a great job with the planning.
Team Shoot: Discussion tabled.
Election of New
Members: Three potential new
members were presented: Jeffrey D'Agostino,
Tal Allen and Beth Pritchard. Pat Russell will send them welcome
letters and invite them to the next meeting.
Website Committee: Discussion tabled.
Training Committee: Discussion tabled.
Old Business:
AKC Hunt Test Seminar - Sandra Kretz has spoken with Suzi Moore about the Seminar. It was previously held in Freeport at L.L. Bean. The purpose of the event is to discuss standards for judging. Judges are instructed how to judge and participants learn the standards by which their dogs will be judged. We will narrow down prospective sites and information prior to 2005.
Katahdin Decals - Tommy will order more. They are available on the website or by e-mail.
Good Sportsman Awards - Deferred.
Lifetime Members - a discussion was held on the nomination and notification process. We discussed the creation of plaques honoring lifetime members.
New Business:
The AKC has a video on Show Standards.
It was suggested that we might want to make it available to
members.
Membership lists will be included in the next newsletter.
The meeting was adjourned at 7:45 PM.
Respectfully submitted,
Pat Russell
Secretary
